STEM Zone Saturday is a monthly  program that provides engagement in the sciences and engineering fields. Participants engage in inquiry-based STEM education and activities. They discover new areas of interest, identify real-world problems and explore innovative solutions and ideas. The topics are different each month.

At the Jan. 27 program, students will learn from professors, staff and students from the two colleges, including:

Fertitta Family College of Medicine

  • Kenya Steele, assistant dean of outreach and student pathways and professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences.
  • Medical students – S. Thomas, R. Wong, S. Flores and C. Cooper.

College of Optometry

  • Lucy Kehinde Darnell, assistant dean for student services and clinical associate professor.
  • Maria Walker, assistant professor.
  • Tiffany Lu, fourth-year optometry student

In addition, students will be able to purchase STEM kits and participate in various “hands-on, minds-on” activities designed around the presentations, shared Heather Domjan, executive director of the  STEM Center.
