George Tan, Ph.D.

George Tan, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor jointly appointed in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences at the Fertitta College of Medicine and the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the Cullen College of Engineering at the 91破解版. He is committed to advancing interdisciplinary collaboration in biomedical innovation and translational research.

Tan鈥檚 research focuses on Intelligent Biomedical Manufacturing, which integrates biomedical engineering, artificial intelligence, and advanced manufacturing to enable the development of engineered human tissues, organoid models, antimicrobial devices, and lab-on-a-chip systems for physiopathology and drug development.

He has been recognized with numerous honors, including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Junior Investigator Research Award from the Biomedical Engineering Society鈥檚 Advanced Biomanufacturing Group, the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the Innovation Award from the TechConnect World Innovation Conference, the Ed and Linda Whitacre Faculty Fellowship, and the President鈥檚 Excellence in Engaged Scholarship Award from Texas Tech University, among others. To date, Tan has published over 40 refereed journal articles, 20 conference papers, three book chapters, and holds one U.S. patent.

Tan earned his Ph.D. from North Carolina State University and previously served on the faculty at Texas Tech University. He currently serves as a board member of the Manufacturing and Design Division of the IISE. He is also a member of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
